Caro Emerald

This Dutch Artist got her opportunity to shine when producers David Schreurs and Jan Van Wieringen had a song ready, but their first choice singer wasn't available. The question was could Caro come in?

Looking back, Emerald said, “I was doing demos at the time, and when I heard about this song, I thought it would be fun to try...I figured right! I came in and heard this new style of song that I completely fell in love with — it was this crazy mix between pop and jazz, all the ingredients I love in music. And then I guess they liked my voice, because we kept it (BIO)."

The resulting single "Back It Up" was almost never released as publishers and labels felt the original demo lacked chart potential. Boy, were they were wrong!  The single was picked up by radio stations and was an instant hit spending 12 weeks on the Dutch Top 40 chart. The follow up single "A Night Like This" reached number 1 in the Netherlands. The album, "Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor" went on to set a record, spending 27 weeks at number 1 on the Dutch Album Chart, beating the original record holder, Michael Jackson's "Thriller" by a week (Caro Emerald).

But, apparently it "lacked chart potential."

She released her follow-up record, "The Shocking Miss Emerald" last year (Caro Emerald).
